SCENES is a professional non-profit
organization whose objectives are:
- to
represent and express the professional concerns of those
involved in English as a Second Language/Dialect (ESL/D)
in Saskatchewan
- to
encourage communication among teachers of ESL/D in the province
of Saskatchewan
- to
promote professional development among ESL/D educators in
Saskatchewan
- to
participate with other provincial ESL/D associations in
professional development at the national level
- to
facilitate and encourage communication with educators of
other languages
- to
facilitate the expression of ESL/D learner issues and concerns
- to
encourage and promote multiculturalism and anti-racism,
both among our learners and in the larger community
- to
uphold the values and practices in the SCENES code of ethics

CODE
OF PROFESSIONAL ETHICS FOR ESL TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS
By
applying for membership in the Saskatchewan Council for Educators
of Non English Speakers, SCENES members recognize and respect
the code of professional ethics of their organization, and
in particular agree to undertake the following:
- To
hold a deep respect for those learners in their care, treating
them as the human persons they are, with all the rights
associated under the United Nations Declaration

To recognize in practice and support the responsibility
learners have for their own learning.

To accept responsibility for the management, counselling
and teaching of ESL programs.

To keep abreast of developments in their field through professional
development.

To share their knowledge and skills with their colleagues
in a spirit of mutual assistance, and to accreditation process
and other activities designed to establish a high degree
of professionalism among its members.

To provide assistance to those newly entering the field
of ESL practice.

To refrain from unfair competition with or public criticism
of their colleagues.

Not to claim any skills or qualifications they do not possess.
